Translation is an integral part of the mixed-media installation work, A Stem to Mend. Written in a faithful imitation of her mother’s handwriting, the artist writes a Tagalog recipe for suman, a Filipino dessert wrapped in banana leaves. She uses banana leaves to physically “wrap” the wall as a way to emulate the Filipino proclivity to wrap delicacies in banana leaves.
