Palms, Palms, Palms!
Palms, Palms, Palms! is a mixed-media installation piece comprised of three main elements: fake scratchers, cushions on the floor, and larger scratcher circles on the wall. There are 365 scratchers on the floor which are almost entirely made up of losing scratchers. With the few winning scratchers, participants can only redeem $10 at most. This reflects the kinds of winnings players are awarded in real scratcher games. The work is an ode to the artist’s mother who bought scratchers regularly in hopes to lift the family out of poverty.
Materials: 3 round cushions (fabric, thread, polyfill), 365 scratchers (scratcher stickers on digitally designed images on glossy paper), and a 3x3 scratcher grid (scratcher sticker, transparent contact paper, and screen printing ink on paper)
