Paper Airplane

Made with papier mache, abaca, and lottery scratchers, Paper Airplane features a projected video of moving water tracing the plane's body. The interplay between the static plane body and the moving projection creates an illusion of motion. The sculptural airplane appears as though it is either traveling over a body of water or submerged beneath it. The use of lottery scratchers, symbols of chance and fortune, further underscores the precarious nature of these voyages. Like flight or submersion, migration can be a matter of life or death.
