Made from used lottery scratchers, Sana Manalo is a handwoven fishing net that traces my family’s hopes and dreams ritualized through our engagement with migration. Migration is like playing the lottery in that one can only dream of winning: Victory in the lottery of life is all but guaranteed.
    The net also embodies the fishing tradition of our family’s coastal hometown of Rosario, Cavite, echoing our family’s dependence on Manila Bay for our livelihoods. Casts of my hands carry the woven net as if casting it into the sea.
