Veins That Carry Life

In the work, Veins That Carry Life, I traced the silhouette of a Pterocarpus indicus (narra) tree over handmade paper made from abaca fiber, arguably the strongest fiber in the world, from the abaca plant native to the Philippines. As the national tree of the Philippines, narra is a species threatened by illegal logging in various regions around the world and is listed as ‘endangered’ in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. The traced image of the narra tree appears weathered here, like a memory from long ago.
