Weaving Tides is a series of handwoven cast nets made from jute, embedded in handmade abaca paper. I taught myself to weave cast nets by hand to channel an ancestral fishing tradition of weaving nets that fell by the wayside due to external factors like displacement. It's one example of migration and diasporas disrupting the traditional transmission of cultural practices. Here, I combine papermaking with the craft to remix and embody fishing net weaving in new ways.
